Dhivehi support on android [Unsolved]

This post is not yet meaningful. If you really want to see how far (or lack thereof) that i have come, by all means… dive into my notes below. If/when i do work this out, this page will be updated. So don’t forget to bookmark this.

There are some interesting files in /system/fonts/
Most .ttf files are unused in this folder. Replacing DroidSans.ttf is the only way to see visible change.
Although you do see visible change, it is not pretty. #The main-english in the phone => dhivehi gibberish.

Now i am stuck in the biggining. No Xkb layouts? The little encounter above makes me think wether keeping the actual keyboard in english, but switching what is inputted would be a better idea.
Anyhow, i have found that the samsung keyboard is made of hard images saved in the root files [/res/images]. So the keyboard may not be very change-friendly (complete assumption).

I have just check to see if ar.m.wikipedia.com loads correctly and it 100% does.
Since arabic is already in place, i would need only copy its settings, i assume. although many settings may be in non-editfriendly. Reverse-engineering any compiled source would be too time consuming...

Interesting stuff and bineries again found in /system/usr
Also, /system/T9DB is worth seeing.

Oh, damn, i just realized that the correct fonts may be in place but the system wont know what to call when it sees dhivehi unicode chars! So i have to replace all pointers for Hebrew perhaps with pointers to dhivehi....

Just for references, this is an xkb map of dhivehi: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xkeyboard-config/tree/symbols/mv

Remote torrenting from many bit-torrent clients

I dont know how many people may have missed this, but perhaps the most obvious and easiest way to add torrents to a remote torrent client would be through a watched folder!

  • Install Dropbox
  • Link your dropbox account
  • Create a folder called ‘torrents’ in your dropbox.
  • Set your preferred torrent client to automatically add torrents in that folder.
  • Set up dropbox on the other computer.
And there you go, its a folder that is actually synced in both computers and so any .torrents saved in there will automatically be imported into the torrenting client and then downloaded. How is that for easy?
Note: As always- if anyone writes a detailed How-to please let me know,  because my raw ideas arent the best when it comes to understanding. (I would love to link to a detailed version anytime)

Firefox 4- Brings app tabs to you!

Firefox has a new tab menu entry, if you havent seen it already. it can be pretty sweet addition if you are a gmail user. Its called pin as app tab.

Goto labs in gmail and enable the Unread message icon extension. This shows a number in the tab icon indicating the number of inbox messages. Now make the thing an app tab – and viola. – Gmail Notifier right inside the firefox (which probably takes up most of your online life).

Automated encrypted backups to megaupload.

I’ve written a little script to automatically upload a backup of a folder i want, to megaupload.It encrypts the file by using gpg standards, then uploads the file using plowshare. It also creates a filecalled ~/Dropbox/Backup.txt, which stores a record of each and every backup. Including the md5 hash of the encrypted file.Since i have a free account in Megaupload, i store backups for 90 days.. after which it will be dead, but who needs backups older than 90 days right?

Safe, Secure and Easy.

#!/bin/bash

 #Set folder to ""; to nullify

 if [ -z $FOLDER ];then
 echo ERROR! No input files! && exit;

DATE=`date +%d%m%y-%H%M`
 gpg-zip --recipient $Recipient --encrypt --output /tmp/$DATE.pgp $FOLDER
 MeURL=`plowup -a $USR:$PASS /tmp/$DATE.pgp megaupload`
 MD5=`md5sum /tmp/$DATE.pgp`
 echo -e "$MD5\t$MeURL\t`date +%D-%H:%M`\t$FOLDER" >> $Record
 echo >> $Record

im thinking of adding this to the cron tab, but the thing has to be run as a normal user,
(doesn’t need root powers)- i haven’t done so because gnome & unity- both seem too oft to
crash on me.btw, you need plowshare and gpg installed, and the recipient’s key should be trusted, or gpg prompts to warn you.

Conky on ubuntu 11.04, (Natty Narwhal) netbook

This month, natty narwhal is going to hit the shelves officially, but i grew a little impatient and grabbed a copy anyhow. Its functional for the most parts.. The dropbox needed a little help to get set up (hey- it hasnt been updated for natty yet…)

This version brings a desktop to the Netbook version after, what i  remember as two steps of no desktop versions.  And with a desktop – comes opportunity.. Without further ado… I present to you : My Netbook Conky

First of all, you need to install conky. After you initially run it, you can edit ~/.conkyrc by using:

gedit ~/.conkyrc

Paste in the following code for the right column conky.

Before we go on, you need to install conkyforecast from its ppa in launchpad:

https://launchpad.net/~conky-companions/+archive/ppa/+files/conkyforecast_2.18_all.deb

Read how to set it up at ubuntuforums. After you have a working setup, continue on.

So the second one, you can name .conky1 and put it in the home folder too.. (ofcourse if you dont like the name, be sure to change the startup script too :P). The weather is set to show Maldives, but ofcourse you should change it to your location before saving.

and now open up Compiz (power button>>System Settings>>Search) , go to Window Decorations, and in the “Shadow windows” text box write:

Now when you start conky, if the right column shows up correctly (dont worry about the other one yet) its time to add the thing to startups.
* Make a new file called ~/.conkyStart.sh or something of the short.. and put :

#!/bin/bash</pre>
sleep 3 &&
conky -d -c /home/unhackmee/.conky1 &
sleep 10 &&
conky -d -c /home/unhackmee/.conkyrc &
exit

Now go and add that to startup applications in ubuntu (remember chmod +x .conkyStart.sh )  😀

Note>> Please remember that this is a script made for a netbook and therefore adjusted to fit on the smaller screen.. All other screensizes should expect to have some experimenting to do.
away with ye!

iPhone .ipa installation through safari & install0us

So if you have a huge collection in that fileserver in your home network, you might have a stomatch upsetting urge to be able to install .ipa files through safari. Why download it from apptrackr again when you have it right in that little server of yours, right?

Some of you might be aware that install0us can be called through safari using “inst://” . But the majority are unaware of this. Also, it becomes quite tiring and its cumbersome to manually key in “inst://download…XX” every time on  the small device.

And so I had an idea.  We are going to use install0us to do just what i described above (and below too 😀 ) :

  1. Share your .ipa collection folder in your network through http. (i used Xerver for this)
  2. Make a file that could open the http link in installous

So i will skip step one – not really new is it? (google HOW TO)

Before I explain step two, you need to make sure to replace two things every time you copy-paste from my code. 1- the icon file. 2- The network address, which goes 192.168….. It would be pretty hard to miss. So it shouldn’t be too difficult.

For step two, you need to create a .htm file. This can be done by making a new notepad file and then saving it as “myfile.htm” (INCLUDING the quotes). Now open that .htm file and put the following code in it.

<!DOCTYPE HTML>
<html><head>
<link rel=”apple-touch-icon” href=”www.ICON-SITE.com/PUTAN-ICON-HERE.ico”>
</head>
<body>
<a href="inst://downloadURL=http://192.168.0.10/Downloads/iApps">Manually Launch Install0us</a>
</body></html>

Put the myfile.htm in your shared files (i.e: the network). Now open that through safari. In order to open that, you need to refer to your http server settings, and would be similar to http://192.168.1.10/myfile.htm. Make sure the Manually Launch Installous link works. If it does, then add that page to your homescreen (here) .

Great, we have a working Installous link for our network- but it isnt over yet! Now go to the computer again and this time, we are going to add an automated redirect to the previous .htm file. Which means the bookmark would go straight to install0us and skip the safari step (but install0us opens to your network location).

Update the myfile.htm to the following.
<!DOCTYPE HTML>
<html><head>
<link rel=”apple-touch-icon” href=”www.ICON-SITE.com/PUT-AN-ICON-HERE.ico”>
</head>
<body>
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
window.location = "inst://downloadURL=http://192.168.0.10/Downloads/iApps"
//-->
</script>
<a href="inst://downloadURL=http://192.168.0.10/Downloads/iApps">Manually Launch Install0us</a>
</body></html>
Now, the bookmark you previously made on the iPhone will open safari and then automatically open up install0us to your preferred page.

Free 3 month megaupload acct for bank of maldives users

So i decided to get a a lifetime membership with MU and so begins my journey.. After depositing $300 in a USD acct in BoMaldives, i purchase the premium account…

I made a payment through moneybookers, and got immediate premium access.. But the acct got suspended in 6hrs.. As it turns out, moneybookers.com didn’t accept my payment (reasons unknown). (maybe because i entered my delivery address) hmm, so anyhow- i lose the premium account- but wait, i still have 3 redeemable vouchers for which i had no previous use whatsoever..

Today- i figured , oh what the heck and tried redeeming one of them (30 day) and it worked…

So it maybe a gamble – but worth a shot for those of you out there looking to download that 2Gig File… Heck, after 30 days the bank will un-hold my payment and to hell with MU and moneybookers.com !!

Update #1>> For those interested, the exact error you are aiming for is stated below :

Your account has been suspended by our accounting department.\n\n Please send an e-mail to account@megaupload.com and tell us how you bought your account (PayPal, credit card, reseller, got it from a friend/relative, …). \n\n Your account will then be unblocked immediately. \n\n Thank you for your cooperation!

Creating a (netbook) download rig

A netbook is perfect to be used as a download rig, as it is made with battery life in mind, and consumes way less power than even a laptop (not to mention desktops). Yet, it has enough processing power to upload and download stuff.. so- for those that dont want ‘just’ a download rig- a nebook is the next best thing. So here i kinda log what a plan to configure (a set-up if you will)…

  • jdownloader which starts at boot.
  • Transmission client.
  • lighttpd which serves the download folder to those who give a …

… Jdownloader has a web-access plug-in, as does Transmission. Both these can downlaod files to the lighttpd www folder… and plus, running jdownloader without graphical mode, in tty2 proves to require lesser resources

Note:These are meaningless notes, Do NOT try to make head or tail of it – lest you may start seeing tails on the middle and heads on that tail. (pun fully inteded). Me no responsible

Multi-Dropbox setup

Dropbox is neat. really neat. real good too. 2Gig for a free user when they start. Not to mention the really cool nautilus extension they have for ubuntu linux.

The thing is hellishly addictive and the super-sleek sync feature leaves the heart wanting more. So now i have two dropbox accounts set-up and and combined with my ubuntu-one account, that makes a total of 6GB in pure sync-ready clouds in my little netbook.

IF you dont already have one, get a dropbox account now (2.25 GB FREE)

Here is how to configure a second dropbox account in ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition:

1. Dont be shy, go on and fire-up the terminal.

mkdir /home/username/.dropbox-shared

HOME=$HOME/.dropbox-shared /home/username/.dropbox-dist/dropbox start -i

2. Complete the setup, and choose selective sync (advanced) , and sync only the Public folder.. Now add dropbox so that it will autostart.

Applications>>System>>Startup-applications

add:

‘HOME=$HOME/.dropbox-shared  /home/username/.dropbox-dist/dropbox start`

3. After that, exit all instances of the second dropbox. now symlink the Public folder in your home dir with the Public folder in ~/.dropbox-shared/Dropbox/Public

4. Hopefully, thats that and the end of this madness, so now – my Public folder syncs with a second dropbox account, that i plan to use sole-ly for public purposes. Its all done and the whole thing costs nada.

Kudos.

FREE Dropbox with initial 2.25Gig space

Friendly Note: The icons are part of an icon set,search for it – its made by Incognitus..

The trick to searching for movies.

well- its the holidays, and if you are stuck behind a computer, then there is probably one thing you would crave more than -well, most stuff (atleast for me) … and that would be good movies… and those loooong episody‘ stuff called serials… and in this mess, i had a hard time looking.

P2P

I already knew one very common way the scene always showed its colours… and that would be P2P. The file-sharing method comes with absolutely no file-size limit whatsoever and no humped load on server with many people downloading (infact, the more people, the better speeds)

damn, now its blabbering. back on topic, i’d say this would be a good way, if the thing you want is hot news and on fire… that way, more people would be sharing it… so give http://www.torrentz.com and http://www.thepiratebay.org a go, and seed it well… maybe.

HTTP

Well, its all fun when it comes to highly seeded- blazing fast torrents, but those are rare. very very rare. I would choose an http download over P2Pany normal day. hell- still- its hard to find those stupid links all buried in the net …

So going to http://www.google.com, i would want to find lets say, How i met your mother season 2, episode 4, dhen i would search for something like:

how i met your mother s02e04 site:hotfile.com +MB intitle:”.avi”

Now this would indeed have to be almost a perfect search. it puts the season episode in the torrent season episode naming format, and specifies a filehost to restrict the search to , and the +MB part highlights the filesize in the search results, from which you can judge the download’s worthiness… so enjoy.. 😀

edit>> using http://www.filestube.com yeilds good results too.. just add mediafire.com at the end of the search query. (eg: The invisiblle dvdrip mediafire.com)
